What is ActUp?

ActUp is 200 curriculum and career drama modules. Each module is based on general school curriculum objectives, career preparation or work skills. Each module has a roleplay, student activities and discussion worksheets. Each module contains dialogue and characters, needs no setting or props and is performed in school classrooms within the teaching period. Each module covers general curriculum objectives or employment situations within New Zealand and Australia.

 

Who can use ActUp?

Everyone. All modules have unisex characters, easy to follow dialogue, and need no acting skills.


How can ActUp modules be used in the classroom?

ActUp can:

  1. introduce subjects and issues with students and the follow-on activities can link into the teaching lesson.
  2. bring a sense of fun, challenge and uniqueness into the classroom and the teaching lesson.
  3. be an alternative teaching method for students who learn through 'talking and doing' rather than 'sitting and listening'.
  4. be a stand alone class lesson where students prepare and perform the roleplay, discuss issues within the roleplay then move onto their own community or national issues.
  5. introduce subjects and sensitive issues in a supportive, inclusive, and non-threatening environment.
  6. give students confidence in speaking aloud, gain public speaking skills.
  7. be integrated with lesson plans.

What are seven benefits from using ActUp?

ActUp modules can:

  1. develop many essential skills your students need, particularly listening, public speaking, analysing and communicating.
  2. cater for different learning styles, particularly those students who learn through observation and action.
  3. be used as stand-alone lessons, especially useful when you need an on-call resource or a different focus.
  4. be used for a range of levels so you can adapt them to the learning ability of your class.
  5. be used for more than one lesson, providing continuity and reinforcement of knowledge.
  6. be entertaining, novel, fun, inclusive, and participatory.
  7. be an excellent cross-curricular resource eg many plays can be used in English, Science, Technology and Social Studies, Careers and Transition curriculums.
